TEKKEN 8! What's new ? (and new features to come)

Introduction

About a month ago, Bandai Namco and the Tekken team made Tekken 8 official by showing the first footage of the next generation of fighting games. The first trailer for Tekken 8 debuted during Sony's State of Play exhibition and shows Tekken mainstays Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima battling in Tekken's 1v1 mode.

"In other words, all character models, backgrounds, and effects are the same as those used in the game," explains Harada in a post on Sony's PlayStation Blog. “While this is taken from story mode, this is not a pre-rendered film made for the trailer, but rather footage rendered in real-time, running at 60 frames per second, similar to how you would experience gameplay in versus battle mode. (Of course, some effects, dialogue and camera angles are currently being updated and may change when the game launches.)”

According to Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada, the first trailer for Tekken 8 "is taken directly from a specific part of the current Tekken 8 story mode, playable on the PlayStation 5."

What's new

- Powered by Unreal Engine 5 and available exclusively on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC Digital, TEKKEN 8 pushes the boundaries of next-generation hardware and technology. The game features high-definition character models built from the ground up with high-quality skin and hair, along with immersive graphics such as muscles that shift to reflect the character's movements.

- Destructive and stunning visual effects throughout the stage and movement add weight and atmosphere to every battle.

Release Date

Currently, no official release date has been confirmed by Bandai; but Street Fighter 6 will be released in 2023 and there will also be an EVO 2023 event in April. With Tekken 8 being announced after the two, the authors expect it to come out after and therefore expected to be released in July 2023.

Trivia

The teaser release for the Tekken 8 game was officially carried out at the State of Play Playstation event which aired live in September 2022. I watched the event live, and in my personal opinion, this state of play event is the best show I've ever watched compared to state of play previous episode. Lots of new game teasers were shown there and this time they were VERY GOOD.

But, did you know that Bandai Namco "secretly" does "marketing" by holding collaborations on certain platforms? Yes, around August 2022, TEKKEN from Bandai Namco held a collaboration event in the game King of Fighter ALLSTAR (mobile game). This is the second time TEKKEN has collaborated on the same game. The author was lucky because I intentionally reinstalled the game to be able to summon gacha in this collaboration event. (You can check the video below to see the devil jin showcase)

Effective soft promotion from the Tekken and Bandai Namco teams!

Author's Recap

A big insight for the fighting game community especially is that all of the character models, backgrounds, and effects in the trailer are the same as those used in the game. But in version 8, they are one level more sophisticated in making high fps, additional updated special effects, and adequate graphics quality improvements considering the development of Tekken 8 is done with the Playstation 5 engine.

This is big news because the trailer is phenomenal and emphasizes that the developers have managed to do a lot more with this franchise thanks to the new generation of consoles.
